Saskatoon Blades News Release
Braden Holtby's 25 save effort propelled the Blades to their second straight shutout win. Holtby now has 3 shutouts this season.
The Blades had a trio of new faces in the line-up tonight as Travis Toomey returned to action after missing 21 games with a broken collar bone while 15 year olds, Duncan Siemens and Brent Benson, were called up for the WHL debut's following their teams exit from the Mac's Tournament in Calgary. The Lethbridge Hurricanes were missing several key players due to international competitions and injuries.
Curtis Hamilton opened the scoring with his 8th of the year in the first period. After a scoreless 2nd period the Blades took advantage of a tired Hurricanes squad when they got into penalty trouble. Toomey made a strong return as he banged home a rebound on the power play to put the Bridge City Bunch up 2-0. Shortly after on another Blades power play, Walker Wintoneak slid a shot underneath a sprawling Brandon Anderson to seal the victory. Picking up assists on Wintoneak's goal were Stefan Elliott and Brent Benson, his first career point in the WHL.
The 3-0 win gives the Blades a record of 27-11-2 for 56 points as they remain in first place in the Eastern Division, 9 points up on Brandon and Swift Current.
The Blades next game is Saturday, January 3rd, when the Prince Albert Raiders visit the Credit Union Centre. The Raiders have won 3 games in a row including their last game against the Blades on December 27th in Prince Albert.
