Saskatoon Blades News Release
Braden Holtby picked up his 6th career shutout, setting a new Blades franchise record, as the Blades downed the Medicine Hat Tigers by a score of 3-0
An entertaining first period resulted in no goals, but several chances including a Milan Kytnar penalty shot that was stopped by Tigers netminder Tyler Bunz.
Kytnar would redeem himself in the second period as he opened the scoring on a power play with a wrist shot that beat Bunz high glove side. Jyri Niemi and Stefan Elliott picked up assists on the goal. Kytnar scored his 18th of the year shortly before the period ended to give the Blades a 2-0 lead heading into the third.
It was all Blades in the final frame as they outshot the Tigers 10-2. A Stefan Elliott point shot would be the only one that got through. Elliott's 14th of the year ended a 20 game goalless drought.
Holtby made 24 saves to record his 5th shutout of the year and 33rd win. The Blades were 2/6 on the power play and a perfect 7/7 on the penalty kill.
The Blades next game is a rematch with the Tigers on Friday as they travel to Medicine Hat before visiting Swift Current on Saturday.
