
Blades Suffer 5-3 Loss in Brandon, Miss out on Post-Season

Brandon, MB - The Saskatoon Blades were officially eliminated from the playoffs on Tuesday night after falling 5-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The loss leaves Saskatoon with a 32-33-3-1 record on the season with just three games remaining on the schedule.
Logan Christensen opened the scoring in his home province with his 5th goal of the season at the 7:38 mark of the first period. Fellow Manitoban Brad Goethals added an assist as did Jackson Caller. Brandon would respond through Linden McCorrister to tie the game at 1-1 after the first period with the Blades holding an 18-11 lead on the shot clock.
The home side took struck first in the middle frame before Max Gerlach tied the game at 2 with his 29th goal of the season. However, former Blade Schael Higson took the lead back to make it 3-2 Brandon after 40 minutes.
Ty Lewis then made it 4-2 for the Wheaties to start the third period with his team leading 43rd goal of the season. Saskatoon made it close as Eric Florchuk found the back of the net with his 16th goal of the season and second point of the night. Linemates Max Gerlach and Kirby Dach also picked up their second points of the game with the helpers.
Evan Weinger put the nail in the coffin with his 30th goal of the season to make it 5-3, a lead the Blades were unable to come back from.
Saskatoon will continue their regular season schedule Wednesday night in Swift Current against the Broncos.
