
Blades Name Green Captain

Blades General Manager & Head Coach Lorne Molleken this afternoon announced that they have named Mike Green captain of the 2004-05 Saskatoon Blades. Mike is entering his 5th season, his 4th full season as a Saskatoon Blade. Green wore the captain's "C" for the bulk of the 2003-04 season. Mike was recently drafted in the 1st round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals. Supporting Mike as assistant captains are Evan Haw and Ryan Keller. The Saskatoon Blades have a rich history of Blades captains; Warren Peters, Glen Gulutzan, Scott Scissons, Tracey Katelnikoff, Dave Chartier, Jason Christie and Chad Allen to name a few.
General Manager & Head Coach Lorne Molleken comments on the announcement, "Mike has proven he deserves the captaincy right from day one. He's a tremendous leader who has a fire in his belly to win. Mike's work ethic and dedication to the Saskatoon Blades is second to none. A quality of a good leader is his ability to listen and learn, Mike has those abilities. Evan shows a strong desire to be successful and has dedicated himself to his teammates. Ryan has been in the Western Hockey League for 5 years now. He shows tremendous leadership both on and off the ice. Mike, Ryan and Evan each bring attributes that are a good fit for our hockey club"
The Blades also announced today that they have released 18 year old netminder Russel Monette, leaving 19 year old Adam Ward and 20 year old Ryan Cyr on the roster for the 2004-05 season. Russel Monette played Midget AAA hockey last season in Swift Current.
The Saskatoon Blades Kick-off the 2004-05 Western Hockey League season this Friday night as they take to the road with a home and home series against the rival Moose Jaw Warriors. Game time is 7:00pm at the Moose Jaw Civic Centre, and 7:00pm at the Credit Union Centre.
