Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today the team has signed forward Mark Lee to a contract for the 2008-09 season.
Lee, who has spent the previous two seasons splitting his time between the Charlotte Checkers and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, becomes the 15th played signed by the Everblades this off-season. Lee, who turns 24 today, spent the majority of the 2007-08 season with the Checkers, tallying 39 points (18g, 21a) and 45 penalty minutes in 34 regular season games. The Mount Pearl, Newfoundland native also saw action in 17 games with the Wolfpack last year, notching six points (1g, 5a).
"Mark is a very gifted and creative offensive player." Cameron said. "He's strong on faceoffs and brings substantial AHL experience to our club having played parts of the last three seasons there. We're looking forward to him bringing his experience, leadership and offensive abilities to our lineup."
During his four-year pro career that began in 2004-05 with Kansas City of the United Hockey League, Lee has played a total of 259 games, scoring 220 points (74g, 146a) and registering 224 PIM. Of his 259 games, 52 have come in the AHL with Bridgeport and Hartford. The 5-foot-11, 185 pound centerman's best season came in 2006-07 when he led the team in scoring with 80 points in 59 games with the Checkers. His point total that season also ranked eighth highest in the ECHL.
"I'm very excited to be coming down to Florida." Lee added. "Over my career I've had a chance to play against some of the top players like Ryan Lang and Kevin Baker and it'll be great to now have a chance to lineup with them. I'm also looking forward to playing in front of the Everblades' fans. Having been a part of a big rivalry with Charlotte I know how dedicated their fans are and how excited they get and I'm really looking forward to playing in front of them as an Everblade."
