Blades Hunting Second Straight Win vs. Wheat Kings
October 13, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades are back on home ice, looking to follow up Saturday's victory with another two points over the Brandon Wheat Kings.
The Blades pumped six goals past the Wheaties at Keystone Centre over the weekend, with three-point contributions from alternate captains Kyle Crnkovic, Tristen Robins, and Rhett Rhinehart.
Saskatoon will look to stay undefeated at home this season after doubling up the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-2 in their home opener.
Brandon is coming off a stretch of three games in three nights - the only loss coming at the hands of the Blades, countered with wins over the Prince Albert Raiders and Regina Pats.
Who to Watch
Alternate captain Kyle Crnkovic is off to a hot start in his fourth WHL season. The Chestermere, AB product was named first star last Saturday after scoring a pair of special teams goals and adding an assist. Now up to a team-leading three goals this season, Crnkovic also led the Blades in scoring against Brandon last season, collecting seven points (3G-4A) in four games.
Fellow alternate captain Tristen Robins has picked up back-to-back multi-point performances, including a three-assist night in Brandon on Saturday to earn the game's second star. The San Jose Sharks prospect sits tied for first in team scoring with five points (1G-4A).
Defenceman Tanner Molendyk lit the lamp for the first time on Saturday, netting the game's opening goal early in the first period. The former 5th overall pick by Saskatoon added an assist in the contest, and is now up to three points (1G-2A) in three games.
