Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades were unable to hold onto their 1-0 lead heading into the third period as the Broncos scored twice in the final frame to hand the Blades a 2-1 loss.

For the third straight game the Blades and their opponents failed to register a goal in the first period. Walker Wintoneak opened the scoring at 15:08 of the second period. For Wintoneak it was his 23rd goal of the season and extended his point streak to 10 games.

The momentum shifted in favour of the Broncos 2 minutes into the third period. Gaelan Patterson was assessed a 5 minute major penalty for boarding and the Broncos took advantage 13 seconds later while the teams were playing 4 on 4. Once Patterson's penalty turned into a 3 minute power play for the Broncos they struck again on a weird goal that took a couple bounces and fooled Braden Holtby.

The Blades were 0 for 7 on the power play and 2 for 3 on the penalty kill.

The Blades next game is Tuesday night when the Medicine Hat Tigers visit the Credit Union Centre. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM.
