Vancouver Giants News Release

PORTLAND OR - The Vancouver Giants continued their winning ways on the road, doubling up on the Portland Winter Hawks 4-2 in the Rose City on Saturday night.

Evander Kane scored a pair of goals in the victory, while Craig Schira and Alex Rodgers also added goals in the win. Jamie Tucker turned aside 24 of 26 shots for the victory, moving his record to 15-0-0-1 this season.

The Giants roared out to a 3-1 first period lead. After surrendering a goal to Chris Francis just two minutes in, the Giants exploded. Schira was able to find a lane in the top of the Portland slot and snap a shot past Portland keeper Ian Curtis at 8:10. Alex Rodgers scored just a minute later, grabbing a loose puck after a nice rush up the ice and beating Curtis to give the Giants the lead at 9:12. Before the period would end, Kane would get his first of two, both on the power play, both from down low. Vancouver would dominate the period and set a team record in the process, firing 27 shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes.

After Travis Ehrhardt scored the lone goal in the second period, the teams would battle through the third until Kane's late power play marker with two minutes to play would seal the seal. Kane's 35th goal of the season would be the insurance needed as Vancouver would skate away with the win.

The Giants are now 46-4-0-3 on the season and 23-3-0-1 on the road this year. The Giants are now just three wins away from tying the Giants club record of 49 wins on the season and now just five road wins away from equalling the WHL record for wins in a season of 28 set by the Calgary Hitmen nine seasons ago.

The Giants will wrap up their five game road trip versus the Seattle Thunderbirds at the brand new SHOWARE CENTER in Kent, WA. You can catch all the WHITE SPOT GIANTS HOCKEY action on AM 650. The pre-game show will begin at 4:30 pm, puck drop at 5 pm from the 'SHOW'. Dave Sheldon will have the call of the game from the Emerald City.
