Saskatoon Blades News Release
Braden Holtby stopped all 38 shots he faced to pick up his 6th shutout and 35th win of the year.
The first period was uneventful and the Blades and Rebels headed into the second scoreless. The Rebels outshot the Blades 13-8 in the opening frame. The Blades opened the scoring when a Stefan Elliott point shot was tipped in front by Walker Wintoneak. For Wintoneak it was his 25th goal of the season, tying him for the team lead, and his 12th goal in his last 12 games. The Blades added to their lead when Elliott found Curtis Hamilton alone at the side of the net to pot his 17th of the year.
With the Blades up 2-0 in the third period, Charles Inglis sealed the victory when he roofed a nice setup from Josh Nicholls. Inglis would later score the decision in a fight with Rebel Steve Oursov who had to be helped off the ice following the fight.
The Blades were 0/4 on the PP and 6/6 on the PK. The win gives the Blades 90 points on the season, 6 ahead of Brandon who were victorious over Swift Current. It is the first time since the 1994-95 season that the Blades have reached the 90 point plateau.
The Blades will now look to take down the Eastern Conference leading Hitmen in a clash of the Conference's two best teams tomorrow night in Calgary. The game can be seen nationally on Rogers Sportsnet at 8PM.
