Blades Avoid Sweep, Blast Royals 4-0

Estero, Fla - The Florida Everblades and the Reading Royals finished up a three-game set Saturday night at Germain Arena. The Royals won the first two games outscoring the Blades with a combined score of 10-5. The Blades played with intensity and a sense of urgency scoring two goals in each of the first two periods. Scott Hotham scored a goal and added an assist and center Colin Nicholson added a pair of helpers in the Everblades 4-0 win. Goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu had 33 saves in the victory, his second shutout with the Everblades.

The first Stanza started with the Blades scoring the first goal of the game 4:23. Right winger Steve McJannet tapped in a rebound off a Colin Nicholson's shot, putting the Blades up 1-0. Rob Hennigar then scored a power play goal thanks to a nifty pass from Ernie Hartlieb putting the Blades up 2-0.

A.J. Thelen scored on a 2-on-1 during the second period to put the Blades up 3-0 at 9:53. Colin Nicholson added the assist on Thelen's fifth goal of the season. The Blades kept pressure on the Royals as Defensemen Scott Hotham scored on the power play at 13:48 making the score 4-0 in favor of the Blades. Florida out-shot the Royals 15-8 in the second stanza.

There was no scoring in the final period as the Blades finished off the Royals 4-0.

The Everblades travel to Wheeling on Wednesday to take on the Nailers, and then stop in Toledo on Friday for one contest against the Walleye before beginning a two game set against the Kalamazoo Wings Saturday and Sunday.
