Gladiators Repeat 5-2 Win over South Carolina

The Gladiators jumped on the Stingrays early, winning 5-2 for the second straight evening. Despite surrendering a two-goal advantage early in the third period, Galivan rallied the Gladiators to the win. Taylor turned in another supurb effort for Gwinnett stopping 33 shots, including a number while the Gladiators were short two men.

Once again the Gladiators jumped out to an early lead. While on the power play, Spencer Carbery took a hooking penalty evening up the sides with 4 skaters apiece. Michael Forney was able to deflect the puck out of the Gladiator zone. Siddall picked the puck up in the neutral zone along the leftwing side, worked into the zone and picked the upper-right corner of the net above the glove of Todd Ford. The goal came at the 5:58 mark of the first.

Just under 5 minutes later, Chad Denny would strike again. Getting a puck back at the right point directly off the draw, Denny fired a puck once again over the glove of Todd Ford. Matt Francis picked up his first point on the goal at 10:53 of the first.

The second period saw a number of 5-on-3 power play opportunities. The Stingrays had over 2 minutes of uninterrupted 5-on-3 time, but were unable to score. The Gladiators had terrific penalty killing and some great saves from Danny Taylor as well to kill the penalties.

Gwinnett had their own extended 5-on-3 power play later on in the second, but were also unable to score. The lone goal in the period came off the stick of Matt Scherer after a Gladiators turnover. Rob Ricci and Joe Finley assisted on the goal at the 18:18 mark of the second.

The Gladiators saw their lead slip away early in the third period. After a few Gladiators turnovers, Dylan Yeo was able to snipe the top left corner of the net, sending the water bottle of Danny Taylor skyward. Ricci and Michael Dubuc assisted on the goal at 6:58 of the third.

The tie game would not last long, as Patrick Galivan would come right back for the Gladiators. Just 46 seconds after Yeo tied the game; Galivan pushed an offensive draw forward and flipped the puck over the shoulder of Todd Ford. The unassisted goal came at the 7:44 mark of the third.

Adam Berti would be the next Gladiator to strike at the 9:36 mark. Berti punched home a power play rebound after Siddall and Galivan had a few whacks at the puck as well.

Brian Kaufman would finish out the Gladiators scoring, with a final power goal with 11 seconds left on the clock. Strong forechecking by Gwinnett forced a turnover, and the Kaufman sealed a victory with the goal. Chad Denny got his second assist on the goal and Scott Marchesi tallied an assist as well.

The Gladiators improved to 8-3-1-1 while the Stingrays fell to 9-5-1-3.
