Black Wolves to Host Open Tryout
September 20, 2016 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
New England Black Wolves News Release
Boston, Mass. - The New England Black Wolves of the National Lacrosse League will hold an open tryout for players in conjunction with the Boston Box Lacrosse League, at South Shore Sports Center - the home of the BBLL - on Friday, November 18 at 9:30 p.m.
The Black Wolves, who will be playing their third season in New England in 2017, hold an open tryout each year, just before the start of the team's training camp.
Players will be evaluated at the Friday-night session, with the most promising prospects invited to spend the rest of the weekend - beginning the day after the tryout - working with the Black Wolves in hopes of making the team or the practice squad for 2017.
"We know there is a lot of talent in New England and it makes sense for us to go where the best players from the region are," said Rich Lisk, Assistant General Manager of the Black Wolves. "The BBLL has a good base group of players, and we have heard from other guys from all over the country who want a shot at making the team. It should make for a competitive and talented tryout."
The Boston Box Lacrosse League includes a number of players with NLL backgrounds, with experience from the semi-pro Vermont Voyageurs -- who play in the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League during the summer - or in Major League Lacrosse, and from top NCAA programs.
"We know there will be plenty of interest from guys in our league, and we'd like to invite anyone thinking that they would like a shot at an NLL tryout to come play in the Boston Box league to gain box experience and play at the highest level in this region," said Randy Fraser, a former NLL player and team executive who started the BBLL.
The tryout will be capped at roughly 40 players. Registration will be available on the BBLL web site beginning in early October.
The Boston Box Lacrosse League's fall season also opens on October 11. Players who are not part of one of the league's four teams can register online at BostonBoxLax.com as free agents in the hope of being assigned a team. For more information about the league, contact Fraser or Chuck Jaffe at bostonboxlax@gmail.com.
The New England Black Wolves are the only professional box lacrosse team in New England. The 2017 season will be the teams third at Mohegan Sun Arena. For more information go to BlackWolves.com or call 844-LAX-WOLF.
