Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Three power play scores helped the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 5-1 victory against Team USA in Ann Arbor Friday.
The opening two goals on the evening were the only ones at even-strength. Brady Vail swiped a puck near the USA blue line and fired it under the crossbar to give Waterloo a lead at 15:28 of the first. Brock Montpetit stuffed in his own rebound to add to the advantage at 4:21 of the second. Just over two minutes later, the U-17's scored their only goal on a power play redirection by Adam Reid.
The Black Hawk power play went to work in the latter half of the period. During a five-on-three advantage, Montpetit flipped in a back-hander at 16:16. Then Patrick Divjak made the most of the extra ice, sliding the puck into an open side at 18:20. With just 6.7 seconds remaining in the game, J.T. Brown added one more power play score on a set-up by Divjak.
The Black Hawks moved back into fourth place in the USHL Eastern Division with the win. They face the other half of the Team USA split-squad Saturday at 6:05.
