Black Bears Hold off Elmira

The Berkshire Black Bears took game two of the three-game series with the Elmira Pioneers, winning a nail-biter 4-3.

The Pioneers took an early lead, as Cleatus Davidson led of the game with a triple and was knocked in on a Rafael Alvarez single.

The Black Bears took the lead in the top of the 3rd inning, as Kevin Forbes singled, and then Pete Paciorek hit a homerun to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Black Bears.

Berkshire got another run in the 7th inning when Manny Crespo drove in Pete Paciorek with a single. Chris Briones added to the lead in the top of the 9th with a homerun.

Elmira threatened in the 9th inning when Davidson singled and scored on a Carlos Rosario double. Alvarez then nearly won the game with a homerun, but Jason Clark made the last out at the wall.

Courtney Hall picked up the win going 6.2 strong innings giving up two runs and striking out five batters.

Pete Paciorek went 3-4 with a homerun and 2 RBI's, and Kevin Forbes went 3-5 at the plate for the Black Bears.

Alvarez went 3-5 with two RBI's for the Pioneers, and Davidson picked up three hits also.

Matt Baillie got the save for the Black Bears, his second of the year giving up one run in his lone inning pitched.

The Black Bears improve their record to 7-12, while Elmira falls to 10-7.
