Black Bears Fall Short to Knights

Maryland Black Bears News Release

ODENTON, MD - The Black Bears headed into the weekend optimistic and hoping to leapfrog the Knights into third place in the NAHL East Division. Unfortunately, they could not get their offense going and fell short to the Knights by a score of 3-1.

The first period had its fair share of opportunities for both sides, but did not result in any goals. They had one opportunity on the power play at the six minute mark in the first, but could not convert. The Black Bears played a clean period, not allowing any penalties or goals.

The first half of the second period continued to be quiet just like the first period. At the halfway mark, Wilkes-Barre Scranton scored two quick goals by Artur Turansky and Christopher Rubenach scored to put the Knights up 2-1. Both teams had several opportunities on the power play in the second period but the special teams units for both sides had an uneventful period. As tensions continued to rise Jackson Sterrett and Wilkes-Barre Scranton's Lincoln Hatten exchanged some punches. Hatten was ejected from the contest for instigating the fight while Sterrett served a 5 and a 10.

Wilkes-Barre scored once again at the midway point of the third period to take a 3-0 lead on the Black Bears. Just a minute after, the Black Bears responded with a goal from Jackson Sterrett. The Black Bears couldn't build any momentum and Sterrett's goal ended up being their first and last goal of their night.

Tomorrow night the Black Bears will face off against the Knights again and try to regain their outright lead of the fourth place position in the East Division.
