
Black Bears Cruise to Second Victory over Nordiques

ODENTON, MD - The Maryland Black Bears defeated the Maine Nordiques 4-1 Saturday night for their second victory in a row. As the Black Bears and Nordiques are battling for a playoff spot, this is a crucial series as the season hits the halfway point. The weekend matchup is also a representation of the two latest teams to enter in the NAHL East Division.
In the first period, Black Bears Forward Kyle Oleksiuk got the party started with an assist from Andrew Remer. The Black Bears outshot the Nordiques 11-6. Cooper Black started in net for the Black Bears and batted away all six shots from the Nordiques to hold a 1-0 lead after the first twenty.
The second period started with Oleksiuk returning the favor to Forward Andrew Remer for a goal of his own that gave the Black Bears a 2-0 lead. Cooper Black had an outstanding second period. The Nordiques brought the heat with 17 shots against for the period and Black made every single save to preserve the 2-0 lead.
As the final period started, Oleksiuk set the tone by scoring his second goal and third point of the game. Defenseman Thomas Jarman had the assist from the Power Play goal. Later, the Nordiques finally scored and let the teddy bears rain down from the stands as Forward, Kevin Pitts lit the lamp off assists from Makem Demers and Cole Ouellette. Seconds later, the Black Bears responded. Forward and Assistant Captain Jackson Sterrett sent an absolute rocket into the net with an assist from fellow Assistant Captain Luke Mountain. The Black Bears finished strong and collected the win with a 4-1 final score.
The Maryland Black Bears will play the third and final game of the series tomorrow against the Maine Nordiques at 2:00 PM in the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
