Niagara IceDogs News Release
We hosted our annual Black and White game tonight at the Meridian Centre to cap off 2018-2019 Training Camp, in front of over 500 fans at the Meridian Centre. Returning goaltenders Colton Incze and Stephen Dhillon got the start between the pipes for their respective teams and put on a show.
Both teams were held scoreless through a period and a half. Matthew Philip broke Incze's shutout just seconds before the scheduled goalie change. Philip got the one timer off a pass from Kirill Maksimov to give Team White the lead. Ben Jones picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
After the goalie change, mid second period Tucker Tynan, a 10th round selection from the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, and Jukka Schotter, a 2017 free agent signee, continued what Dhillon and Incze started - putting on a show for the coaching staff.
Early in the third period, Akil Thomas, Philip Tomasino and Ivan Lodnia got to work deep in the offensive zone. Tomasino threw a puck on net and Lodnia tapped it in the open side, to beat Tynan and tie the game up at 1. The goals kept coming as Mason Howard scored a fluke goal high on Schotter to re-gain the lead for Team White. Bradey Johnson responded quickly with a beauty wrap around goal on Tynan. Jacob Vreugdenhill and Billy Constantinou were credited with the assists! The score didn't remain tied at 2 for long. Mathieu Dokis-Dupuis beat Schotter in tight to take the 3-2 lead. Daniel Bukac picked up his first point of training camp with the assist. Philip Tomasino got in on the fun scoring another game-tying goal. Brannon Butler fed Tomasino with Team Black's third goal. Akil Thomas picked up the secondary assist. Team White re-gained the lead with a goal from Ben Jones. Elijah Roberts fed Jones who beat Schotter in tight to take the 4-3 lead. Team Black pulled their goalie in the final minute of play. Kirill Maksimov scored the eventual game-winning empty net goal. Ben Jones and Elijah Roberts picked up the assists. Akil Thomas brought Team Black within one with the assist from Liam Ham.
Our annual Black and White game finished with 5-4 Team White defeat.
