Today's Game
This morning, the Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in their annual School Kids Day at Coca-Cola Field (10:35 a.m.). The Bisons have lost the first two games of this four-game set with the IronPigs. Saturday, the Herd leaves for an eight-game trip to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Pawtucket.
vs. IronPigs
The Bisons are 4-2 against the IronPigs this season. The road team has won each of the first six games as Buffalo swept a four-game set at Coca-Cola Park in Pennsylvania, April 19-22. Heading into this season, the home team had won 44 of the 79 games (.557) in this match-up since 2008.
Ricky Romero
LHP RICKY ROMERO will make his sixth start of the season today and only his second at Coca-Cola Field. The southpaw worked a season-best six innings in a no-decision in Norfolk on Saturday. In that outing, Romero walked none and struck out three. Romero also went a morning start on May 16 in Indianapolis and allowed two earned runs in 3.2 innings of a no-decision.
Mauro hits them Far-o
INF MAURO GOMEZ has eight home runs in his last 10 games. The eight blasts are two more than any player in minor league baseball since May 26. The surge has vaulted Gomez into a tie for the most homers in the IL with 15 on the season. That gives Gomez 63 home runs in the International League over the last two and a half seasons (282 games) in the circuit.
He keeps Goins
INF RYAN GOINS has hit in nine of his last 10 games and 11 of his last 13 going back to May 23. The infielder hit .292 (21-72) in 24 games in May with 10 runs scored and a .378 on-base pct. Overall, Goins is hitting .306 (11-36) leading of an .300 (21-70) with runners on base.
Stil going strong
RHP JOSH STILSON has allowed just three hits over his first five relief appearances with the Herd. The righty has struck out eight and held opponents to a .125 average against to go along with his 1.13 ERA. On Sunday, Stilson earned his first Triple-A save with a scoreless inning of relief in Norfolk.
Bisons Bits
Buffalo has nine players who have played 41 games this year and are on pace to play 100+ games for the season...INF LUIS JIMENEZ has driven in an IL-best 51 runs. He has 17 RBI in his last 19 games and is hitting .355 with runners in scoring position. INF JIM NEGRYCH leads all left-handed hitters in the IL with a .356 batting average.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (25-34) won yesterday afternoon 4-0 at Giants' AT&T Park in San Francisco. Former Bisons RHP R.A. DICKEY threw 8.1 innings of two-hit baseball and also had a double at the plate. The Blue Jays have an off day today and will return home to face the Rangers on Friday.
