Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons will look for a series win as they take on the Rochester Red Wings in the finale of their four-game set from Frontier Field (7:05 p.m. first pitch). Last night, Buffalo gained the 2-1 series edge with a 7-4 victory over the Wings. Ernie Young hit his league-leading 13th home run as the Herd won their 30th game of the year. Tonight, RHP Jason Davis will start for Buffalo. Davis, who was optioned to the Bisons on May 20, earned a no-decision last Monday against Charlotte (5.0IP, 5H, 3R) in his first outing with the Bisons this season. Davis will be opposed by LHP Jimmy Anderson, who lost his last start last Sunday against Toledo (6.0IP, 8H, 3ER).

BACK-TO-BACK,...BACK-TO-BACKS: Bisons' sluggers Ernie Young and Ryan Garko hit back-to-back home runs in the 3rd inning last night. The Herd also accomplished the feat on Friday night as Brandon Phillips and Mike Kinkade hit a pair of solo shots in the 3rd. Buffalo also hit consecutive homers on May 22 with Mike Kinkade and Young having the honors.

CLIMBING UP: The Bisons were the worst hitting team in the IL in April as their .231 team average was 17 points below any team. But as the Herd enters play today, their .271 average is now fifth in the league. So far in May, the Bisons are hitting .298 with 48 home runs and 172 runs scored (6.3 runs a game).

30 WINS: With their victory last night, the Buffalo Bisons reached the 30-win plateau in just their 48th game. Last season, it took Buffalo 62 games and until June 12 to reach 30 wins.

INCREDIABLE MAY: Still with three games left, Bisons outfielder Ernie Young has put together one of the best offensive months in recent team history. Young is hitting .352 (31-88) in May with 10 home runs and 28RBI. He has also hit four doubles and drawn 13 walks, giving him a .739 slugging percentage and a .437 on base percentage. Young currently leads the Herd in each triple crown category with a .317 average, 13 home runs (1st in IL) and 35RBI (4th in IL).

THRUWAY SERIES: With their victory last night, the Bisons (6-5) retook the lead in the 2005 Thruway Cup Series. Rochester (7-7) is in second place, a half game back, while the Syracuse SkyChiefs (6-7) are in third place.
