May 22, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Indianapolis Indians in the final game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd has won two of the first three games against Indy, thanks to Franklin Gutierrez's walk-off home run last night. On the hill for the Bisons tonight will be LHP Aaron Laffey. The southpaw threw six innings in his Triple-A debut on Thursday in Ottawa (8H, 4ER, 3K). The Indianapolis Indians will counter with RHP Jon Van Benschoten.

OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION: The Buffalo Bisons are the top scoring team in the International League. Their 214 runs scored are three more than Indy's total. The Herd is also 2nd in the IL in average (.273), T3rd in home runs (37), and 4th in steals (44).

SWINGING FOR SUCCESS: Franklin Gutierrez went 2-4 last night, extending his hit streak to 19-games. During the stretch, the outfielder has hit .381 (32-84). It's the second longest hit streak in the International League this season, trailing Columbus' Brandon Watson's active 20-game streak. On the year, Gutierrez's .359 batting average is just 12 plate appearances short of qualifying as the top mark in the International League.

HOME HEROICS: Franklin Gutierrez's hit a two-run walk-off home run in the ninth inning last night. The last Bisons batter to win a game with a blast was Jason Dubois, who hit a three-run shot in the ninth on August 8, 2006 against Ottawa.

WELCOME TO BUFFALO: In his first start in a Bisons' uniform, catcher Yamid Haad went 3-4 at the plate with two singles, a double, and a run scored (.750). Signed on April 9, the game was Haad's first in the Cleveland Indians development system.

PATIENCE A VIRTUE: Infielder Luis Rivas has drawn seven walks in his last three games, including four off Indy pitching on Saturday night. Rivas has now reached base in nine straight games, hitting .267 (8-30) with 10 base on balls.

POWER BAT: Ryan Mulhern leads the Bisons with eight home runs (T3rd in IL) and 29RBI (T3rd in the IL). Mulhern also tops the Herd in doubles (11), extra-base hits (20, T3rd in IL) and slugging percentage (.591, 2nd in IL).
