TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the second game of a three-game series at Alliance Bank Stadium (7:00 p.m.). After wrapping up the series with the Chiefs, the Bisons will remain in Syracuse to play two games against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this weekend.
THRUWAY CUP: After yesterday's loss, Buffalo and Syracuse now share first place in the 2012 Thruway series. Each team holds a record of 10-7 in the three-way battle between the Bisons, Chiefs and Rochester (5-12). This season, Buffalo holds a 5-3 record against Syracuse, including a 2-1 series win at Alliance Bank Stadium, April 20-22.
OWEN : RHP DYLAN OWEN returns to the Bisons' active roster after missing 14 games due to a right elbow impingement. The healthy righty last pitched on June 20 at Norfolk and allow one run in four innings of work. Owen is 2-3 with a 5.35ERA in his eight previous starts this season.
BEATO: RHP PEDRO BEATO has been recalled by the Mets for the second time this season. Beato has not allowed an earned run in five consecutive outings for the Bisons, a stretch that began on June 22 (7.2IP). Overall, Beato is 3-2 with a 1.13ERA in 16 appearances with the Bisons this season.
SCHWINDEN: The Mets have claimed RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN off waivers from the New York Yankees. Schwinden returns to Buffalo where he was 3-4 with a 2.59ERA in nine starts to begin the season. The righty was designated by the Mets on June 1 and in the past month has spent time with the Blue Jays, Indians and Yankees organizations.
HEFNER: The Mets have optioned RHP JEREMY HEFNER to the Bisons. Hefner was 1-3 with a 5.64ERA in 11 games and three starts with New York. The righty has posted a 2.72ERA in seven starts with Buffalo this year.
BISON BITS: Recording six strikeouts against Syracuse yesterday, IL All-Star RHP MATT HARVEY leads the IL in strikeouts (102)...In his first game since April 21, OF ADAM LOEWEN went 2-3 with a walk last night. Loewen missed 61 games on the Bisons disabled list...LHP CHUCK JAMES was released by the Mets today. He was 0-1 with a 4.57ERA in 18 games with the Herd.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (44-38) dropped game two of their home series with Philadelphia, 9-2. The Phillies scored three runs in each of the final three innings to erase the Mets' 2-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh. Former Bison R.A. DICKEY will take the hill tonight as the Mets conclude the series at Citi Field at 7:10 p.m.
