Today's Game
This afternoon, the Bisons and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs square off in the rubber match of a three-game series from Coca-Cola Park (1:35 p.m.). The Herd defeated the IronPigs, 2-1, on Friday with Lehigh Valley rebounding for a 3-2 win last night. Buffalo will start a seven-game homestand Monday against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Syracuse.
Last Game (LHV 3, BUF 2)
A two-run home run from INF Andy Burns was all the Bisons offense could muster in a 3-2 loss to Lehigh Valley last night. IronPigs' starter Alec Asher retired 18 straight Herd hitters and Buffalo had just two base runners other than Burns home run. LHP Scott Diamond delivered another quality start (6.0IP, 3R), but is now 2-2 on the season.
vs. Lehigh Valley (1-1)
The Bisons will face the IronPigs 17 times this year and will return to Coca-Cola Park, June 17-19. The teams have traded one-run wins over the past two nights. Only five of the 18 games last year between the clubs were one-run affairs while the average margin of victory was over three runs (3.06). Buffalo was 10-8 against the IronPigs in 2015.
Wade LeBlanc
LHP Wade LeBlanc has posted a Bisons' best 2.22 ERA over his first four starts of the season. He has allowed two or fewer runs in each start with just three walks to 20 strikeouts over his last three outings. LeBlanc allowed two runs in six innings in a no-decision last Tuesday against Rochester. The southpaw is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in two starts on the road this season.
Jesus Montero
DH Jesus Montero saw his 13-game hit streak come to an end last night. Still, the slugger held onto his league lead with 28 hits on the season. Montero has reached base safely in 19 of his 22 games this season with a .341 on-base pct. He leads the Bisons with eight extra-base hits (6 doubles, 2 home runs) and is 2nd with 11 runs scored.
Chad Jenkins
RHP Chad Jenkins is 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA in his six relief outings. He has worked more than an inning in five of his six appearances from the bullpen, including picking up the win with two shutout frames on Friday. Jenkins was 8-6 in 11 starts and 30 relief outings in 2015.
Bisons Bits
The Bisons are 8-0 when outhitting their opponents and only 2-13 when they are outhit...At 10-13, the Bisons had their worst April since the 2011 season (10-14). They posted April winning pcts. of .667, .565, .708 and .583 over the last four years. INF Andy Burns is second on the club with seven multi-hit games on the season.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (11-14) fell in a 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday. C Curt Casali had the walk-off RBI-single for the Rays with no outs in the 9th inning. All three Toronto runs came via the home run with a two-run shot from RF Jose Bautista and a solo shot from former Bison, CF Kevin Pillar. The Blue Jays and Rays play today at 1:10 p.m.
