Jermaine Curtis Named International League Player of the Month
Published on May 1, 2016 under International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Louisville second baseman/third baseman Jermaine Curtis has been named the League's Player of the Month for April.  Along with winners from other leagues, Curtis will receive an award from Minor League Baseball in recognition of his performance last month.Â
Louisville's Jermaine Curtis led the International League over the first month of the 2016 campaign with a .385 batting average, 18 RBI, and a .515 on-Âbase percentage, boosted by another IL-Âbest number, six HBP.  Curtis has his Bats off to an impressive 12-Â9 start, having driven in at least one run in ten of the sixteen games in which he's played.  Curtis doubled and tallied four RBI in Louisville's 16-Â5 pounding of the Clippers on April 20, and six days later he doubled and knocked in three runs in a 7-Â2 victory over Norfolk.  Curtis hit .464 with runners on-Âbase in April, and his average was an even-Âhigher .526 (10-Âfor-Â19) with runners in scoring position.  Curtis becomes the first member of the Bats to be honored as IL Player of the Month since pitcher Homer Bailey in June of 2009.  28-Âyear-Âold Jermaine Curtis is in his ninth season as a professional player and his fifth full season at the Triple-ÂA level.  He was originally a 5th round choice of St. Louis in the 2008 draft out of UCLA.  In 2013, he got only taste of the Major Leagues so far, appearing in five games for the Cardinals.  He signed with Cincinnati as a free agent prior to the 2015 season, when he hit .273 in 74 games for the Bats before tearing a thumb ligament in July.  Curtis is a native of Panorama City, California.
