Montgomery Biscuits News Release
KODAK, Tenn. - Patrick Leonard hit an 0-2 curveball for a home run to tie the game with two outs in the ninth inning but the Biscuits (38-37/4-3) fell to the Tennessee Smokies (44-32/5-2) 6-5 on a walk off single by Billy McKinney Friday night at Smokies Park.
The Smokies took a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning on a wild pitch that allowed Albert Almora to score. Corey Black shutdown the Biscuits in the eighth inning and retired the first two hitters in the ninth. Leonard then stepped to plate and quickly fell behind 0-2. Black then hung a curveball that Leonard crushed over the left field wall to tie the game.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bryce Stowell ran into quick trouble. Almora doubled then Stowell walked the next to batters to load the bases. The Biscuits brought Tyler Goeddel in for a five-man infield but McKinney lined a base hit into left field to end the game.
Cameron Seitzer and Goeddel hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to take a quick lead on Smokies' starter Rob Zastrysny.
Tennessee's big inning came in the third when they scored three runs to take their first lead of the game. Willson Contreras and Almora each had an RBI double while Stephen Bruno drove in the go-ahead run with a single to make it a 4-3 game.
The Biscuits will be back at home at Riverwalk Stadium to take on the Biloxi Shuckers on Saturday for the Fourth of July. RH Jake Faria will throw for the Biscuits while the Shuckers have not yet announced their starter. First pitch is slated for 6:35.
