Mobile BayBears News Release
JACKSON, TN - The Mobile BayBears topped the Jackson Generals 3-2 in the resumption of Thursday night's game that was suspended at the Ballpark in Jackson due to inclement weather. The game was suspended in the bottom of the sixth inning with Mobile leading 2-1.
The game could not be called early due to the fact that Mobile trailed 0-1 until the top of the sixth inning when Zach Borenstein powered out a two-run home run to give the BayBears the one-run advantage. By rule, Jackson must have an opportunity to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Generals scored first on Thursday night in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tyler Marlette drove in Jabari Henry from third with a RBI single off of BayBears RHP A.J. Schugel.
When play resumed on Friday, Mobile took the field with Jackson batting and two runners on with just one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Dominic Leone took the hill for the BayBears in relief Schugel.
The Generals pushed across the game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tyler Smith grounded to third with the bases loaded and the ball was misplayed by BayBears' third baseman Sean Jamieson. The error allowed D.J. Peterson to score from third as Jackson evened the score at 2-2.
Borenstein struck again in the top of the eighth inning. The left-handed slugger drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice RBI to left that allowed Sean Jamieson to tag up from third and cross home to put Mobile back on top 3-2.
After RHP Adam Miller retired the side in the bottom of the eighth inning, RHP Silvino Bracho entered the game for Mobile in the bottom of the ninth inning and recorded his fifth save of the season, preserving the BayBears 3-2 victory.
In game two, Jackson took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third inning. Tyler Smith tagged up and scored from third on a sacrifice fly from Ian Miller.
The score remained the same until the tarp went on the field due to heavy rains in the bottom of the sixth inning. After a one hour and fifteen minute rain delay, the game was finally called early after six innings, resulting in a 1-0 shutout win for the Generals.
The loss was charged to BayBears RHP Braden Shipley (4-7). The righty allowed just the one run on five hits, walking one and striking out three in 5.1 innings on the mound.
With the three game series in Jackson now complete, the BayBears will return to Hank Aaron Stadium for a 7:05 PM match up against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Saturday night July 4. Fans are encouraged to stick around after the game for a special 4th of July Fireworks show.
