Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - Southpaw Misael Siverio dominated the Mobile BayBears as the Jackson Generals notched a 1-0 rain-shortened, six-inning shutout Friday in front of 4,521 fans at The Ballpark at Jackson. Siverio threw 5.1 scoreless innings to highlight a busy Friday at The Ballpark. Earlier in the day, Mobile completed a suspended game from Thursday with a 3-2 nine-inning triumph.
The only run in finale scored for Jackson (3-5, 32-44) on a third-inning sacrifice fly from Ian Miller. Early singles by Tyler Smith and Marcus Littlewood put two runners in scoring position against Mobile starter Braden Shipley (4-7). Miller followed with a fly ball to left field, scoring Smith for the decisive run.
Siverio (4-7) protected the lead through a stellar start. The left-hander faced the minimum in four of his first five innings pitched, allowing just two hits in that stretch. Siverio also recorded four strikeouts while surrendering just one walk Friday.
In the sixth inning, Mobile (4-4, 38-39) was denied a game-tying run on a controversial play. The BayBears loaded the bases against Siverio, who was replaced by Grady Wood. Jack Reinheimer smoked a line drive to left field that was caught on a slide by Jabari Henry. Ronnie Freeman had come in from third base, but he was called out on appeal for leaving early to cap an inning-ending double play that kept Jackson ahead, 1-0.
A rain delay halted the bottom of the sixth and lasted one hour and 18 minutes before the game was called, giving Jackson a rain-shortened shutout. Wood picked up his second save of the season after escaping the bases-loaded jam during the game-saving double play in the top of the sixth.
In the completion of a suspended game that began Thursday, Zach Borenstein led the BayBears to a 3-2 win. The game was tied in the eighth inning when Borenstein lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Jack Reinheimer. Borenstein went 2-for-3 and drove in all of Mobile's runs, recording a two-run homer Thursday before the contest was suspended due to rain.
Jackson was trailing in the sixth inning, 2-1, when play resumed before the Generals drew level. After a walk by Julio Morban loaded the bases, Smith forced in D.J. Peterson with a grounder to third base. The score remained even at 2-2 until Mobile produced the tiebreaking run on the eighth-inning sacrifice fly.
Former Jackson General Dominic Leone earned the victory in relief, improving to 1-1 with Mobile. Matt Anderson allowed Borenstein's sacrifice fly and dropped to 1-5 with the loss. Silvino Bracho earned his fifth save in as many chances.
During Friday's action, the Generals wore special patriotic jerseys that are currently up for auction to benefit the 30th SAB Association. Fans can bid through Sunday at 10:00 p.m. CT at generals.milbauctions.com.
Jackson will go to Trustmark Park for a five-game series at the Mississippi Braves that begins Saturday at 6:00 p.m. CT. Generals southpaw James Gillheeney (4-2, 3.05) is scheduled to face Braves right-hander Tyrell Jenkins (4-5, 3.03). Brandon Liebhaber will call the game on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3), opening coverage at 5:45 p.m. CT with the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
The next Generals homestand includes a visit by the Birmingham Barons, starting Thursday, July 9. Night of Heart, presented by West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center, features postgame fireworks and special Generals jerseys for Friday, July 10. Jep Robertson will be in attendance Saturday, July 11 for Duck Dynasty Night with postgame fireworks, sponsored by State Farm Agent Alan Brown. The homestand also closes with wet and wild action on Super Splash Day scheduled for Monday, July 13.
