Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
Jacksonville, Fla. - In front of the third-largest crowd in Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville history, 12,123, the Montgomery Biscuits used two big offensive innings and solid defense to defeat the Jacksonville Suns Friday night by the score of 12-5.
The Suns fell to 11-10 in the loss while the Biscuits improved to 11-10 overall.
Montgomery exploded early when Reid Brignac belted a three-run homerun in the first inning to make it 3-0. The next batter Evan Longoria hit a solo homerun to left-centerfield to make it a 4-0 game.
Jacksonville then chipped away with a solo homerun from Luis Maza in the first inning, cutting it to a 4-1 Montgomery lead. The Suns scored three runs in the third inning with an RBI triple from Chin-Lung Hu and RBI singles from Luis Maza and Cory Dunlap, tying the game at 4-4.
That score remained until the sixth inning when Montgomery added six runs off of four hits. Suns reliever Wesley Wright began the inning, his third in relief, and allowed four runs on three hits with three walks. Carlos Alvarez came on to get the final two outs of the inning, but not before he allowed two runs on two hits with two walks. After the sixth inning, Montgomery led 10-4.
The teams traded single runs in the seventh inning when Fernando Perez doubled home a run for Montgomery in the top half, while Xavier Paul tripled home a run in the bottom half for the Suns to make it an 11-5 game. The Biscuits finished the scoring in the eighth inning when Reid Brignac scored on a Marshall McDougall throwing error to make it 12-5.
Chris Seddon (2-1) picked up the win for Montgomery while Wesley Wright (0-1) picked up the relief loss for Jacksonville.
Luis Maza led the Suns with a 5-5 night at the plate with a homerun and two RBI.
The Suns have now lost nine consecutive games against the Montgomery Biscuits, including the final regular season series of 2006 and the three-game playoff series during last postseason. Jacksonville's last win over Montgomery came on July 28, 2006.
