Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (45-44) lost a ninth-inning lead for the third time this series, but Logan Driscoll saved the day with a walk-off double to take an 8-7 victory over the Biloxi Shuckers (45-45) on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.
Sean Hunley and Tobias Myers both opened strong in their respective starts, but it was the former that surrendered the first run of the game in the third inning. Jackson Chourio brought in his sixth RBI of the series with a single to third base as Biloxi jumped out to an early 1-0 lead.
It would not take much longer for Myers to surrender his first run as Tristan Peters fired a two-run laser over the right field wall. It was his fifth home run of the season, and it brought in his fifth RBI of the series to make the score 2-1 going into the fourth.
A double for Carlos D. Rodriguez and a single for Ethan Murray brought in two more runs in back-to-back at-bats to reclaim the lead for the Shuckers. The sequence ended the afternoon for Hunley, who allowed a season-high seven hits along with three earned runs and two strikeouts over 3.1 innings pitched.
After a quiet fifth inning, Biloxi added on to their lead when Rodriguez scored on a groundout from Tristen Lutz to make the score 4-2. Tanner Murray responded in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer to left field. It was Murray's first career Double-A home run and his eighth hit of the series.
An RBI-triple from Johan Lopez and an RBI-single from Peters put Montgomery ahead by two runs in the seventh inning. A sacrifice fly allowed Murray to score in the eighth, as Montgomery once again took the lead into the final inning.
In what had become a familiar sight, Chourio led the charge with a two-run double to cut the lead to one. A groundout from Zavier Warren allowed the tying run to score as Montgomery lost a ninth-inning lead for the third time this series. However, a two-out walk-off double from Driscoll prevented the Shuckers from completing another comeback as the Biscuits clinched an 8-7 victory.
Jeff Belge (3-1) earned the win while Ryan Brady (0-1) took the loss as the Biscuits walked off Biloxi for the sixth time this season.
The Biscuits will hit the road over the next two weeks with the first pit stop in Tennessee for a six-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Patrick Wicklander (2-1) will open the series for the Butter and Blue on Tuesday, July 25.
The next homestand is set for August 8, as Montgomery will take on the Birmingham Barons. The series will include National Dollar Day on Tuesday, August 8; Beer Lovers Day on Wednesday, August 9; a Lazy Day T-Shirt Giveaway on Thirsty Thursday August 10; a Bacon Biscuit Bucket Hat Giveaway on Friday, August 11; Halloween Night & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, August 12; and a Lil' Crumbs Backpack Giveaway presented by Whataburger.
