Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BILOXI, Mis. - The Biscuits (6-11) notched their first three-game winning streak of the season on Sunday, using four home runs and another solid outing from Zach Lee (2-0) to take down the Biloxi Shuckers (10-7) 13-3 on a blustery afternoon at MGM Park.
The Biscuits entered Sunday's contest with a Southern League-low four home runs through their first 16 games of the year, but would double that total while recording a season-high 16 hits in their rout over the South Division-leading Shuckers.
With the wind blowing steadily from the Gulf out to left field for most the game, Ryan Boldt got things started in the top of the first, launching his first Double-A home run. The fly ball that would have been a routine play for Shuckers left fielder Troy Stokes Jr. under normal conditions just kept carrying before barely clearing the wall and hitting the left field foul pole to put Montgomery up 1-0 against former major leaguer Wade Miley (0-1).
An inning later saw Dalton Kelly blast his first home run of the season on a bomb over the left field wall to double the Biscuits lead. An RBI-fielder's choice by Brett Sullivan in the third made it 3-0, and then Brandon Lowe mashed his second home run of the season-also over the left field wall-to make it a 4-0 game.
Lee allowed just one run on six hits, walking and striking out a pair, and lowered his ERA to 1.66 before Nick Solak stepped up in the seventh and launched a mammoth three-run home run, his first as a Biscuit, also to left.
The Biscuits would put up a six-spot in the ninth to blow the game wide open, and finished the game with 10 extra-base hits (four home runs, four doubles, and two triples).
Montgomery will try to make it four victories in a row on Monday night when knuckleballer J.D. Martin (0-3) takes on Zack Brown (0-0) at 6:35 PM.
The Biscuits will return to Montgomery on Thursday to open up a five-game series with the Mobile BayBears when it will be NASCAR night featuring a T-Shirt giveaway presented by Gipson's Tire Pros at 6:35 PM.
