Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - With the Montgomery Biscuits (31-21; 65-57) just two outs away from suffering a shutout at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Thursday night, Erold Andrus slammed a game-tying three-run homer. The Biscuits would use the momentum to defeat the Jacksonville Suns (21-32; 54-69), 5-3 in 10 innings.

With the win, the Biscuits climbed to within a half game of the Mississippi Braves, their closest pursuit of the divisional lead.

The Biscuits had played uninspired offensive ball through eight innings. Jacksonville starter James Adkins allowed only a bloop single by catcher Craing Albernaz in the third inning. He walked four and struck out four in his best start of the year. Jacobo Meque added another hitless inning in the eighth and left the Biscuits one inning away from being one-hit for the first time in their history.

Meque yielded to reliever Travis Schlichting in the ninth, however, who allowed a Rhyne Hughes single before serving up Andrus' home run.

In the 10th inning, J.T. Hall reached second base on a fieldeing error by first baseman Adolfo Gonzalez. Rashad Eldridge struck out while trying to bunt, but Johnny Raburn followed with a walk. Gaby Martinez worked the count full before jolting an RBI single down the right field line. Raburn scored on the next pitch, a wild pitch that flew back to the screen on the fly.

Montgomery starter Jeremy Hellickson got off to a rough start, allowing four hits and three runs in the second inning. But he faced the minimum for the rest of his seven-inning start. He struck out 10, tying a Biscuits season high. He didn't walk anyone.

Steve Andrade earned the win by throwing a scoreless ninth. Jacksonville native Neal Frontz earned his sixth save with a perfect 10th inning.

The Mississippi Braves dropped a 7-2 decision to the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Biscuits have not spent a single day in either half of the 2008 season in first place.

Montgomery goes for the series victory Friday at 6:05 p.m. Central Time, sending lefty James houser to the mound against Jacksonville lefthander Eric Cyr.
