Montgomery Biscuits News Release
JACKSON, Ten. - The Biscuits (0-2) got on the board for the first time this season, but did not score enough run to keep pace with the Jackson Generals (2-0) who took down Montgomery for the second-straight night, 9-2, in western Tennessee.
Biscuits starting pitcher Taylor Guerrieri (0-0) got into trouble early, allowing back-to-back RBI-singles to D.J. Peterson and Tyler O'Neill in the first inning to make it 2-0 Jackson. The 23-year-old would settle down after that though, going five innings and holding the Generals offense to the lone two runs.
After being shutout on opening night, Montgomery finally put a run on the board thanks to first baseman Casey Gillaspie who launched his first home run at the Double-A level off Jackson starter Ryan Yarbrough (0-0) to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second. The Biscuits would tie the game in the sixth on a Granden Goetzman sacrifice fly.
The game remained knotted at two until the bottom of the seventh when the Generals loaded the bases for Guillermo Heredia. The Cuban international stepped up and launched a towering grand slam over the left field fence off Biscuits reliever Brett Marshall to hand Jackson a 6-2 lead. The Generals would add three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach for the Biscuits.
Montgomery will look to notch their first victory of the season on Saturday night against the Generals at 6:05 PM CT when they send Ryne Stanek to the mound against Sam Gaviglio.
The Biscuits will open up at home on Tuesday night, April 12 against the Mississippi Braves on Free Hot Dog Night.
