Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - Despite out-hitting Pensacola, the Mississippi Braves dropped its first contest of the season as Blue Wahoos took a 3-1 victory on opening day at Trustmark Park. The series continues Friday at 7:00 PM.
Mississippi (0-1) scored one run on six hits while Pensacola (1-0) plated three runs on just four hits. Phillip Ervin led the Blue Wahoos at the plate with a two-hit night.
The Blue Wahoos got on the board first with Phillip Ervin tripled and scored on a Donald Lutz sacrifice fly to left field, giving Pensacola a 1-0 lead in the fourth.
In the seventh, Brandon Dixon walked and took second on a sacrifice. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance before Chad Wallach drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Dixon scored on a double play ball, and Beau Amaral later singled to drive home the third run.
The M-Braves lone run came in the seventh. Johan Camargo walked and took second on an errant pitch before coming around to score on Jordy Lara's drive up the middle.
Nick Travieso (1-0) worked five frames and picked up the win for Pensacola. He gave up four hits and two walks while fanning five batters. Lucas Sims (0-1) went five innings for the M-Braves, allowing one earned run on just one hit. He walked three and struck out nine.
In game two of this five-game series against Pensacola, the M-Braves send righty Chris Ellis to the hill against Blue Wahoos lefty Amir Garrett. First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
