Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (25-29), propelled by three runs in the fourth inning, defeated the Jackson Generals (30-23), 5-3, on Gump in the Gump Night Friday at Riverwalk Stadium. Montgomery's bullpen hurled six scoreless innings in relief of starting pitcher Zach Lee.
Lee, who made a spot start with Triple-A Durham last Saturday, returned to Riverwalk Stadium and stifled Jackson early. The right-hander kept the Generals off the board, stranding two base runners in the first three innings.
The Biscuits' bats awoke in the bottom of the third. Thomas Milone started the inning with a triple off Jackson starter Ryan Atkinson (2-5). Milone would score on a throwing error by Generals' third baseman Jose Vinicio.
Despite the run of support for Lee, Jackson charged forward in the fourth. After Rudy Flores singled and Domingo Leyba walked, Generals' left fielder Jamie Westbrook hit a two-run triple, jumping Jackson ahead 2-1.
Lee would be forced to leave the game as he faced Josh Prince. The Texan departed due to an apparent injury and was relieved by Roel Ramirez (1-1). Ramirez was unable to barricade the Generals as Prince drove home one with a single.
Montgomery answered in the bottom of the fourth, however. David Rodriguez scored Brett Sullivan and Dalton Kelly on a two-run double, evening the score at 3-3. Biscuits' shortstop Jermaine Palacios would later bring home Rodriguez on a sacrifice fly, retrieving the lead.
Ramirez kept the Generals off balance for 2.2 innings. The right-hander allowed just one hit and struck out three in a scoreless appearance. Travis Ott continued posting zeroes, holding Jackson at three runs heading into the seventh.
Montgomery added an insurance run on a Ryan Boldt seventh-inning single. Biscuits' reliever Jordan Harrison retired all four batters he faced, clinching a rubber-match tomorrow.
Montgomery concludes a five-game series Saturday against Jackson on Flight Night at 6:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the gates of Riverwalk Stadium will receive a free C-130 figurine, presented by AUM, as well as be treated with MAX Fireworks after the game. Eduar Lopez (3-2) will take the ball for the Biscuits while the Generals have yet to announce a starter.
