MONTGOMERY - Five runs scored for the Birmingham Barons in the ninth inning at Riverwalk Stadium Tuesday afternoon in an inning that saw just one dribbling groundball escape the infield. The opportunistic Barons were only too happy to steal away with a 7-4 victory.

The inning overturned a 4-2 Biscuits lead and disappointed a large crowd of 7,293 on Grand Slam School Day.

Roger Deago walked Thomas Collaro to begin the inning. Jared Price followed with a roller to third base that Chris Nowak played off his chest. The error put the tyng runs aboard. Nowak bobbled the next one too, a grounder by Micah Schnurstein, but he recovered in time to get an out on a questionable call at second base. Deago recovered to strike out Stefan Gartrell and get the Barons down to their last out, but pinch hitter David Cook rolled a single into center field, tying the score.

Jeremy Flanagan entered and hit Robert Valido with the first pitch he threw, loading the bases. The second pitch he threw went wild, briniging home the go-ahead run. Miguel Negron then rolled a base hit to second, and Josh Asanovich threw wide of first, scoring two more.

Montgomery loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but failed to score, leaving them loaded for the third time.

Montgomery scored two in the first on a fielding error and an Erold Andrus single. Andrus knocked in another in the seventh on a fielder's choice, the same inning in which Sergio Pedroza gave Montgomery the lead with an RBI single.

The Barons managed two runs against Montgomery starter Wade Davis, who threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed only an infield single and two Texas Leaguers, while walking four and striking out five.

It is the first game the Biscuits have lost when leading after eight inning since they lost 9-8 to the Chattanooga Lookouts on August 8, 2007.

The middle game of the series is Wednesday evening at 7:05 with Biscuits lefty James Houser on the hill.
