Mobile BayBears News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - A 3-1 lead evaporated quickly for the BayBears, who were the victims of a seven-run, sixth-inning in a 10-6 loss to the Huntsville Stars at Joe W. Davis Stadium.
John Hester homered off Huntsville (22-10) starter Derek Miller (3-1) in the fourth to put the BayBears (15-17) on the board, 2-0. Mat Gamel's third of four hits plated the first Stars run in the bottom of the fifth before a solo blast by Rusty Ryal made it 3-1 BayBears.
In the bottom of the sixth, the wheels came flying off for the BayBears. Tony Barnette (2-4) pitched well through the first five but ran out of steam as Angel Salome's two-run double knotted the score. The Stars went up on a base hit by Michael Brantley while Gamel made it 5-3 with another RBI single. Matt LaPorta's three-run rally killer off Forrest Cory finished off the biggest inning of the season for Huntsville to put them in front 8-3.
Down 10-3 entering the ninth inning, the BayBears scored three as Ryal had a two-run single while E.J. Shanks allowed Bryan Byrne to score on a wild pitch. Shanks let the tying run come to the plate, but Patrick Ryan (S, 4) came in for the final out as Hester bounced into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded.
Hector Ambriz (2-3, 3.97) starts for the BayBears on Wednesday morning at 10:35 in the third game of the five-game series with the Stars. The BayBears are back in Mobile on Saturday night, May 10, when they host the Jacksonville Suns at Hank Aaron Stadium. Call (251) 479-BEAR for tickets or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
