Biscuits Blank M-Braves in Near Record Time, 5-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In what went down as one of the fastest games in Riverwalk Stadium history at one hour and 48 minutes, the Biscuits (9-8) used the long-ball and some dominant pitching to lock up their first shutout victory of the season, blanking the Mississippi Braves (5-13), 5-0, on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Jayden Murray made his fourth start of the season for the Biscuits, and the right-hander allowed a lead-off single to Michael Harris II, who was left stranded at the third after Murray retired everyone else in the top of the first, notching two strikeouts.

Southpaw Jared Shuster (2-2) was on the mound on the other side for Mississippi, and the lefty allowed a single to Greg Jones, but faced the minimum in the bottom of the first, getting Curtis Mead to bounce into the inning-ending five-four-three double play.

The M-Braves left runners stranded at third in the first, second, and third innings, but Murray was able to work around the traffic and kept it a scoreless game through four innings. Shuster allowed only three hits including a double to Mead, but struck out four to match Murray's total through the first four frames.

Murray walked one to begin the top of the fifth, but got Logan Brown to hit into a double play and finished off his night with five scoreless innings before handing the reins to Sean Hunley (2-0). Shuster, who recorded his fifth strikeout in a clean fifth, was back on in the sixth, and struck out his sixth batter in a one-two-three frame.

Hunley served up a single to Hendrik Clementina in the seventh, but the Biscuits turned their third double play of the game and kept the game scoreless as the right-hander faced the minimum.

Shuster was back in the mound in the bottom of the seventh and walked Mead to begin the inning. After Jordan Qsar popped out and Grant Witherspoon flied out to left, Evan Edwards launched a two-run home run over the right field wall for the first runs of the game and made it 2-0 Biscuits.

After Trevor Brigden worked a scoreless eighth and the Biscuits turned their fourth double play of the night, Mead clubbed a screamer of a three-run home run over the left field wall to make it 5-0 in the bottom of the eighth and put the game out of reach for Mississippi. Brigden then completed the two-inning save with a one-two-three ninth.

The Biscuits missed out on tying the record for fastest game at Riverwalk Stadium by three minutes, just exceeding the one hour and 45-minute game on July 28, 2019, a 2-0 win over the Birmingham Barons.

The Biscuits will try to make it three in a row for the first time this season on Friday when Ian Seymour (0-2) clashes with Alan Rangel (0-1) on Korean Appreciation Night at 6:35 PM.
