BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Birmingham Barons by the score of 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon, May 17th, in Southern League action at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
Montgomery starter Andy Sonnanstine (8.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K) tossed eight scoreless innings while improving his record to 2-3. John Raburn (2-for-4, triple) and Michael Coleman each drove in runs for the Biscuits (24-16) while Matthew Maniscalco went 3-for-4. Brian Henderson recorded the final three outs to earn his second save of the year.
Ray Liotta (7.0 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K; now 1-5) suffered the loss for the Barons (18-23), who had just four hits on Wednesday.
Birmingham will continue its five-game series with the Biscuits on Thursday, May 18th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tony Peguero (4-3, 1.97 ERA) is listed as the probable starter for Montgomery, while Lance Broadway (4-1, 1.42 ERA), last week's BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week (May 8th - 14th), is scheduled to take the mound for the Barons.
