Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - Montgomery Biscuits right-handed pitcher Andy Sonnanstine has been named to the 2006 Southern League Postseason All-Star Team, the Southern League announced Thursday. The 23-year-old Sonnanstine, in his first year at the Class AA level, was named the league's top right-handed pitcher. The Postseason All-Star Team is voted upon by the league's field managers, radio broadcasters and print media.

With one regular season start left, Andy Sonnanstine has posted a 15-7 record with a 2.77 earned run average, compiling 147 strikeouts against just 31 walks in 178 2/3 innings. He currently leads the Southern League in wins, innings pitched and shutouts (4), having broken the Biscuits single-season record for each category.

This is not the first time the Kent State product has been honored by the Southern League. He was named the TOPPS Southern League Player of the Month for July and was twice honored as the BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week.

Strangely, fellow right-handed pitcher Spike Lundberg of the Jacksonville Suns was named the Pitcher of Year but was left off of the Postseason All-Star Team.
