Jackson, TN - Tyler Lumsden pitched 8 1/3 innings of superb baseball as he led the Birmingham Barons to a 3-1 win over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx on Friday night at Pringles Park.

Lumsden becomes just the third pitcher to win his seventh game in the Southern League as the left-hander handcuffed the Diamond Jaxx all night long. Lumsden (7-2) gave up one run while scatteriing seven hits on the night. Ehren Wasserman retired the final two batters to notch his tenth save of the season. The last out of the game was a pickoff of Brian Dopirak at third base. The Diamond Jaxx had two on, including the tying run at second, when Wasserman picked off Dopirak to end the game.

Corey Smith had two hits, including a homer, and two RBI's to pace the Barons offense. Ricardo Nanita, Cory Aldridge and Micah Schnurstein had two hits each as part of a Barons twelve hit attack.

Gary Cates drove in the only run of the night for the Diamond Jaxx, who remain two games behind Chattanooga in the Northern Division. Miguel Negron and Dopirak chipped in with two hits each. Juan Mateo suffered the loss for the Diamond Jaxx. Mateo (3-3) allowed a run on five hits in three innings of work.

Game four of the five game series is set for Saturday night at 7:05 CDT. Left-hander Chris Shaver (2-4 2.89) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Birmingham will counter with lefty Corwin Malone (5-4 4.08).
