MOBILE, AL- The BayBears scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat Tennessee 6-5 Friday night. Luis Cruz had an RBI single and George Kottaras hit a two-run double to give the BayBears the eighth inning lead. Dale Thayer left two runners on base in the ninth inning to record his 11th save. Tennessee manager Bill Plummer was ejected in the ninth inning.
Bubba Nelson (3-4) pitched .2 scoreless innings to pick up the win. The game was started by Roger Deago, who went six innings, allowed two runs on five hits. Deago struck out three and walked one. Cruz, Kottaras, Joey Gomes, and Chris O?Riordan all had a multiple hit game for Mobile.
The BayBears and Smokies will play Saturday at 7:05. Mobile will send RHP John Hudgins (3-1) to the mound against Tennessee?s Ross Ohlendorf (4-3). All BayBears games can be heard on 1480 AM WABB, Comcast Cable Channel 18, and on the internet via mobilebaybears.com.
