Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

LYNCHBURG, VA - In a pitcher's duel that saw just a combined 10 hits, the Delmarva Shorebirds fell 2-1 in 10 innings to the Lynchburg Hillcats on Sunday afternoon at Bank of the James Stadium.

With the loss, the Shorebirds (4-5) split the six-game series three apiece with the Hillcats (3-6). The walk-off win for Lynchburg followed their Friday night comeback when they plated two in the ninth to come from behind and walk off the Shorebirds.

It took until the fourth inning for the game's first run to cross as Delmarva struck first. Ryan Higgins walked to start the frame and then raced all the way to third on back-to-back wild pitches. After a groundout and pop out, Isaac Bellony drove him in with a wall-ball double, putting Delmarva ahead 1-0.

Lynchburg answered immediately in the bottom half. Will Bartlett slammed a triple off the rightfield wall and then scored on a Carson Tucker single. After an error and sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third, Tucker tried to score on a groundball to second with the infield drawn in, but Darell Hernaiz threw him out at the plate to preserve the 1-1 tie.

It stayed 1-1 all the way into extra innings. The Shorebirds failed to score in their half of the 10th before Victor Planchart slammed a walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th for the Hillcats, scoring the automatic runner from second, and giving Lynchburg a 2-1 win.

Davis Sharpe (1-1) earned the win in relief with two perfect innings, striking out two for the Hillcats.

Kelvin LaRoche (1-1) was the tough luck loser for Delmarva as he allowed just an unearned run on two hits in three-plus innings for the Shorebirds.

After an off-day on Monday, the Shorebirds return home to Perdue Stadium on Tuesday, April 19 as they welcome in the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium for the very first time. First pitch on Tuesday is slated for 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on MiLB.TV and theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
