Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds saw a slim one-run lead slip away in the fifth inning and never bounced back in a 6-1 loss to the Fredericksburg Nationals on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The Shorebirds (62-50) and Nationals (40-72) each had plenty of foot traffic on the basepaths in the first three frames, but the game was scoreless through the first three innings.

Delmarva finally broke through in the fourth. Logan Michaels singled to start the frame and after two wild pitches and a balk scored the opening run of the contest.

The FredNats ran rampant with two outs in the fifth to take the lead. Jake Boone singled and Jacob Young then walked before Darren Baker beat out an infield single to load the bases. Onix Vega bounced a single into center to plate two before Leandro Emiliani blasted a three-run homer, his fifth of the year, to cap the five run frame.

Fredericksburg added one more in the seventh. Young singled and swiped second where Baker knocked him home with another base hit to cap the scoring at 6-1.

Edward Urena (1-1) collected the win out of the bullpen for the FredNats. He fired three frames of one run ball, allowing three hits while striking out five.

Cameron Bishop (0-1) suffered the loss for Delmarva. Bishop gave up five runs in one innings on four hits and a walk, striking out one.

The Shorebirds go toe-to-toe again with the FredNats on Saturday, September 11 at Perdue Stadium. Houston Roth (8-3, 3.69) starts for the Shorebirds against Michael Cuevas (1-7, 3.84) for the FredNats. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on MiLB.TV and Fox Sports 960 AM with Sam Jellinek on the call.
