Birds sweep twin bill from Hawks

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis swept a doubleheader from Oklahoma City Saturday night at AutoZone Park winning game one 2-1 in nine innings and game two 4-2 in seven innings.

The Redbirds won the first game in dramatic fashion on Mark Hamilton's walk-off home run in the ninth inning with two outs. The RedHawks tied the game in the seventh inning on Matt Brown's RBI-single after the ‘Birds were staked to an early lead on Kevin Howard's RBI-single in the fourth. Mike MacDougal picked up the win for Memphis striking out the side in his lone inning of work. Warner Madrigal was pinned with the loss after allowing Hamilton's homer in the ninth. Redbirds starter Brandon Dickson worked 6.1 innings allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts. RedHawks starter Michael Kirkman fanned 11 in his six innings.

Memphis used a four-run third inning to down the Hawks in the nightcap. Allen Craig's two-run double ignited the rally with Hamilton's RBI-double and Joe Mather's RBI-single capping the rally. Chuckie Fick worked 2.2 innings out of the Memphis bullpen to earn the win giving up one run on one hit and two walks. RedHawks starter Omar Beltre took the loss allowing four runs on four hits and four walks. Eduardo Sanchez recorded the final two outs to record his first Triple-A save.

The Redbirds will host Oklahoma City tomorrow night with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. The first 1500 fans age 14 and under will receive a Rockey dinette set courtesy of U.S. Foodservice as part of Rockey's Birthday Celebration.
