Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - Kansas City Royals right-hander Gil Meche will have his rehab assignment moved from Double-A Northwest Arkansas to Triple-A Omaha and he is scheduled to start for the Royals on Monday vs. the New Orleans Zephyrs in a 12:05 p.m. game at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Meche, 31, began his rehab assignment in fine fashion with the Naturals on Wednesday, when he pitched four scoreless innings in a game at Arkansas. He allowed two hits, walking three and striking out three. Meche threw 69 pitches, 42 for strikes. It was the first game situation for Meche in almost two months, as he has not been on the mound for Kansas City since May 25 due to right shoulder bursitis.

In nine starts for the parent club this season, he's 0-4 with a 6.66 ERA, although he posted a 3.60 ERA in his last four outings before going down with the injury.

Meche made two injury rehab starts with Omaha in August of last season, going 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA.

Monday's game is the finale of the Royals' six-game homestand and your last chance to catch the Royals at historic Rosenblatt Stadium in July. Fans will enjoy 1/2-price Omaha Steaks Burgers. It's also the fourth of six Ballpark Bingo Bashes this season in the Hall of Fame Room. The day is also presented by 1110 KFAB.
