TODAY: The RedHawks and Memphis will play a doubleheader to make up for Friday's postponement caused by a lengthy power failure in downtown Memphis. It will be OKC's first games against a team other than Iowa since the All-Star break and their second twin bill in 5 days. OKC just finished back-to-back series (9 games) against Iowa, including a Tuesday doubleheader to make up for a May rainout. OKC went 2-3 in Iowa and 4-5 in the 9-game stretch against the Cubs. OKC is 2.5 games up on Albuquerque in the American South. Lefty Michael Kirkman gets the start for the RedHawks in Game 1, his third of the year against Memphis. Omar Beltre gets the OKC start in the nightcap. OKC has swept 2 doubleheaders and been swept twice in 2010.
UNUSUAL POSTPONEMENTS, DELAYS: Here are a few of the most unusual delays, postponements or game suspensions involving the RedHawks:
Date Site Delay/postponement
May 3, 1999 OKC (vs. Memphis) Game 1 of DH suspended by devastating tornadoes in south metro area
April 18, 2000 @ Colo. Springs Postponed, high wind/dust
May 14, 2005 @ Fresno Game delayed 1 hour, 11 minutes in third inning by power failure
May 29, 2007 OKC (vs. Salt Lake) Start delayed 2 hours, 29 minutes by Salt Lake travel, equipment delays
May 28, 2008 @ Omaha Game suspended by hydrochloric acid spill near Rosenblatt Stadium
June 27, 2008 @ Omaha Postponed, power failure caused by severe thunderstorms
July 23, 2010 @ Memphis Postponed, power failure at a downtown substation
LUCKY 7: Guillermo Moscoso went 7 innings in a winning start Thursday, allowing 4 runs (3 earned), all in the third inning. OKC is 15-3 when the starter completes at least 7 innings.
LUCKY 8: Thursday's 8-4 victory marked the ninth time the RedHawks have scored exactly 8 runs. They're 9-0 when scoring 8.
COMEBACKS: OKC trailed 4-0 after 3 innings in their most recent game Thursday. Overcoming the 4-run deficit was the third-largest comeback win of the season for the RedHawks, who rallied from a 9-0 hole to beat Memphis 10-9 on June 3. The RedHawks trailed 5-0 after 3 innings on June 22 at New Orleans before rallying for a 10-5 win on the night Gregorio Petit hit a PCL record-tying 2 grand slams.
BOGGS STREAKING: Brandon Boggs owns a 21-game on-base streak. The RedHawks' outfielder is third in the league in walks with 61 and tied for fifth in on-base percentage at .405. Since returning from the DL July 15, Boggs has drawn at least 1 walk in 9 straight games (all against Iowa), receiving 13 bases on balls in that span.
HOMER HAPPY: OKC allowed its first 3- and 4-homer games within the past week, allowing 3 against Iowa on Saturday and 4 against the Cubs in Tuesday's doubleheader opener. OKC was the last PCL team to allow either a 3- or 4-homer game. The RedHawks were out-homered by Iowa 12-6 in a stretch of 9 head-to-head meetings that ended on Thursday.
ERA NO. 1: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.75. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (60) in Triple-A. OKC has also allowed the fewest runs (418) and earned runs (357) in the PCL. OKC has scored 103 more runs that it has allowed, the best run differential in the league and second in Triple-A behind Durham's +148.
ERROR UPDATE: The RedHawks have made an error in 5 of the past 6 games and have 35 errors in their past 32 games. OKC has not recorded consecutive errorless games since sweeping a doubleheader from New Orleans on June 16. When making an error, OKC is 28-32. When errorless, the RedHawks are 25-12.
