Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Kansas City, KS - The Sioux Falls Canaries held separate four-run leads midway through Friday night's game against Kansas City but the Monarchs would finish the game with 14 unanswered runs for a 15-5 victory.
Ozzie Martinez and Kona Quiggle belted consecutive one-out solo home runs in the top of the first inning and Wyatt Ulrich laced a two-out two-run triple in the second to give the Birds an early 4-0 lead.
A Monarch triple and sacrifice fly in the third inning got the hosts on the board but Sioux Falls got the run back with a Martinez RBI double in the top of the fifth.
But it was all Kansas City from there as the Monarchs scored four runs in the fifth, three in the seventh and seven in the eighth to break the game open.
Ulrich and Martinez each recorded two hits and two RBIs to lead the Sioux Falls offense while starting pitcher Joey Pulido tossed six innings and struck out five.
The Birds (5-9) will rematch Kansas City tomorrow night at 6:05pm.
