'Birds Fly, Crabs Caged in Doubleheader Split

ABERDEEN, M.D. - A feature doubleheader at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium pitted the Aberdeen IronBirds and the Connecticut Tigers against eachother in game one. That ended in a 4-0 shutout and a 'Birds win. The teams transitioned to the Aberdeen Steamed Crabs and the Connecticut Lobster Rolls in game two, where the Rolls won it 2-1.

BIG MOMENTS

3rd inning: Aberdeen got their first run on Toby Welk's single that scored Zach Watson. Later in the inning a sacrifice fly from Andrew Fregia scored Kyle Stowers from third.

5th inning: Johnny Rizer and Joey Ortiz both ahd their second hits of the game, and both wer RBIs to give Aberdeen a 4-0 lead they would never give up.

GAME TWO

BIG MOMENTS

3rd inning: New England scored when they had a runner on second and an errored pick off play put the ball in right field. Kona Quiggle came all the way around to make it 1-0.

6th inning: The Lobster Rolls added to their lead with an unearned run after Corey Joyce's RBI single. Aberdeen answered with a run of their own on back to back hits for Clay Fisher and Andrew Fregia.

7th inning: Johnny Rizer roped a pinch hit double, but the Steamed Crabs left the game tying run on second in a tough 2-1 loss to split the doubleheader.

NEWS & NOTES

Aberdeen has now split their all three doubleheaders in 2019.

Through 34 games, Aberdeen is 19-15, with a daily change at the top of the MacNamera division.
