Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis made a first inning run stand up in a 1-0 shutout victory of Round Rock Monday night at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds scratched out an early run in the first inning and used strong pitching the rest of the way to notch their third shutout win of the year. Back-to-back extra-base hits in the first from Daniel Descalso and Nick Stavinoha gave the 'Birds an early advantage. The Redbirds had only one more hit in the game with Jon Jay's single to lead off the ninth inning. Chris Johnson had two hits to lead Round Rock.

Memphis starter P.J. Walters turned in seven scoreless innings to earn his first win since May 16 scattering three hits and fanning five. Oneli Perez and Matt Scherer combined for two scoreless innings with Scherer picking up his first save of the year. Bud Norris was the tough-luck loser allowing one run on two hits across six innings with seven strikeouts. After the first inning Norris retired 15 of his last 18 batters faced.

The 'Birds and Express wrap up their four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Kyle Lohse is scheduled to be on the mound for Memphis on a rehab assignment and oppose Round Rock right-hander Yorman Bazardo.
