New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
One night after an offensive explosion, the Zephyrs failed to capitalize on their numerous scoring opportunities as they fell to the Iowa Cubs 1-0 on Monday night.
John Koronka pitched well despite taking the loss. He allowed only one run on six hits in his six innings of work before giving way to the bullpen. Luis Ayala and Jay Buente combined for three shutout innings to keep the Z's within striking distance, but the offense could not come through.
John Raynor and Cameron Maybin each had two hits to lead the way for New Orleans. Unlike Sunday, the Zephyrs could not get the timely hits they needed to score runs.
The team was 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 men on base, including a pair of inning-ending double plays by John Lindsey in the first and fifth innings.
Vince Perkins got the win for the Cubs by throwing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. The series will wrap up Tuesday afternoon with Willie Collazo (LHP) squaring off against Casey Fossum (LHP).
