Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds met defeat for the fourth straight time against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, falling 5-1 in the penultimate game of the series.

For the second straight game, both starting pitchers hung zeroes through the first three innings, but it was the Pelicans (9-5) who jumped out on the Shorebirds (5-9) in the fourth.

With one away, Jacob Wetzel was hit by a pitch and Miguel Fabrizio worked a walk. Ethan Hearn sent them both to the races as he laced a double down the rightfield line to drive in both runners and put Myrtle Beach ahead 2-0.

The Pelicans extended the lead in the sixth. After a walk and two single loaded the bases, Pete Crow-Armstrong unloaded the bases with a three-run double, pushing the Myrtle Beach lead to 5-0.

The Shorebirds got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Greg Cullen singled with one away and Isaac Bellony followed with a walk. Davis Tavárez then singled to left with the ball sneaking under the leftfielder's glove allowing Cullen to score. Isaac De León followed with another single to left, but Bellony was thrown out at the plate, ending the Delmarva threat and keeping the score 5-1, where the game would eventually end.

Porter Hodge (1-0) fired five shutout innings to earn the win for Myrtle Beach as he allowed just three hits and struck out four without allowing a walk.

Ryan Long (0-1) suffered the loss for Delmarva after striking out a career high seven over four innings while allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.

The Shorebirds and Pelicans wrap up their series on Sunday, April 24 at Perdue Stadium. In a rematch of the series opener, Moisés Chace (0-0, 0.00) starts for Delmarva against Luis Devers (0-2, 7.50) for Myrtle Beach. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 1:50 p.m. on MiLB.TV and theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
